What the world needs now, is a truly epic ninja movie

I’ve been waiting for as long as I can remember. Waiting for the day when someone would make the Ninja movie of my dreams. Something so incredible, so mind-numbingly bad ass that my soul would be forever sated. There have been numerous ninja movies of course. The early 80s saw a boom in the genre, most of which starred Shô Kosugi. If you don’t know who Shô Kosugi is, that’s okay. I guarantee that you know his eyes.

Recently there have been a slew of epic martial arts films: Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, The House of Flying Daggers, Hero, Fearless, Warriors of Heaven and Earth, etc. I’ve been waiting for someone to take the obvious next step and make the worlds most kick ass ninja movie. Recently a film called Shinobi was released, and it gets close, but it’s still not there.

What I want is a movie about a lone ninja facing impossible odds and insensate evil. Demons, monsters, soulless martial arts masters who use their dark arts for dark purposes that only our Ninja hero can stop. Basically I want Ninja Gaiden the movie. Not the new Ninja Gaiden either, the classic NES Ninja Gaiden. That was fucking bad ass.

Perhaps one day…

  1. “soulless martial arts masters who use their dark arts for dark purposes that only our Ninja hero can stop”

But… soulless martial arts masters who use their dark arts for dark purposes ARE ninja! That’s the very definition of what a ninja is! How can you expect a ninja to be the hero?

What you’re hoping for, I suppose, is something like Blade or Spawn, where the monster hero turns on his fellow monsters and becomes a good guy…
